- Could you tell us a little about Aasya Designs and what inspired you to start your journey in interior design?
Aasya Designs was born from our shared love for creating spaces that feel as good as they look. For us interior design is not just about choosing beautiful furniture, colours or finishes. It is about understanding how people live and bringing their personality into their homes.
Both of us, Drashti and Priya, have always been drawn to design and the way a thoughtfully designed space can change the way you experience everyday life. Starting Aasya Designs gave us the opportunity to turn that passion into something of our own.
What inspired us the most was the idea of creating homes that feel personal and timeless instead of simply following trends.
- How would you describe your design philosophy and what makes Aasya Designs different from other interior design studios?
Our design philosophy is centred around personalisation, functionality and timeless aesthetics.
We believe a home should reflect the people living in it. Instead of following one particular style for every project we first understand our client’s lifestyle, requirements and personality and then build the design around them.
What makes Aasya Designs special is how involved we are in every project. We pay attention to everything from space planning and material combinations to lighting, textures and the smaller finishing details. Our goal is to create a space that looks beautiful but also feels like home to the people living in it.
- What are the most important things a homeowner should consider before starting an interior design project?
Before starting an interior project homeowners should be clear about three things: how they want to live, what they need from the space and what their budget is.
It is easy to get carried away by aesthetics but functionality should always come first. Storage, circulation, lighting, maintenance, durability and everyday habits should all be considered during the planning stage.
We also encourage clients to be open about their expectations. A good design process is a collaboration between the designer and the homeowner and that is when the best results happen.
- How do you balance functionality, aesthetics and budget while designing a home?
We see all three as equally important.
A beautiful home that does not function well is not successful design. At the same time functionality does not mean compromising on aesthetics.
We first understand what is most important to the client and then plan the budget accordingly. We like to invest more in areas where quality and durability really matter and find smarter alternatives where possible.
Good design is not always about spending more. It is about spending wisely and making the right choices.
- What are some common interior design mistakes homeowners make and how can they avoid them?
One common mistake is choosing everything separately without thinking about how the entire home will come together. A sofa or wall treatment might look beautiful on its own but the overall combination is what makes a space work.
Another mistake is following trends too closely. Trends can definitely be inspiring but your home should still feel like you.
We also see people underestimate planning. Electrical points, storage, lighting and measurements may not seem exciting but they make a huge difference once the project is completed. Planning these things early can save a lot of changes and unnecessary expenses later.
- How do you select the right materials, colours and finishes for different spaces?
We start by understanding the purpose of the space and the feeling we want it to have.
For example a bedroom should feel calm and comfortable while a living room can have a little more personality.
We also look at the natural light, artificial lighting, existing architecture, maintenance and of course the client’s preferences.
We love creating depth by combining different textures and materials with subtle colours and a few well-chosen accents. For us everything should feel connected and harmonious rather than overly designed.
- What are the key factors you consider when designing a modular kitchen for long-term functionality and durability?
A kitchen has to work well every single day so functionality is always our starting point.
We look at the client’s cooking habits, storage needs, workflow, appliance placement and overall ergonomics before finalising the layout.
Material and hardware selection is also very important because kitchens go through a lot of daily use along with heat and moisture.
We try to make every storage area purposeful and keep frequently used items easily accessible.
For us a successful kitchen is one that looks refined but is also easy and comfortable to use years after it is completed.
- How can homeowners make a small home feel more spacious, organised and comfortable through smart interior design?
In a small home every inch matters.
We focus on smart storage, clean planning and visual continuity. Built-in storage, multifunctional furniture and good lighting can make a huge difference.
We also try not to overcrowd the space. Using a simple material palette, consistent finishes and the right proportions can make a compact home feel much more open.
It is not about removing everything from a small home. It is about making sure every element has a purpose.
- With trends changing constantly, how do you decide which design trends are worth incorporating into a home?
We don’t think every trend needs to become a permanent part of a home.
We usually look at trends as inspiration rather than rules. If something suits the client’s personality and lifestyle and works with the space then we are happy to bring it in.
We prefer using trends in elements that can be changed or updated over time while keeping things like the layout, cabinetry and main finishes more timeless.
We want a home to age gracefully rather than look outdated when a trend passes.
- What is one important piece of advice you would like to share with homeowners planning their first interior design project?
Don’t design your home for someone else’s lifestyle. Design it for yours.
Save your inspiration pictures and explore different ideas but also think about how you actually live and what will work for you every day.
Most importantly don’t underestimate the importance of planning. Discuss your requirements, budget, materials and expectations clearly before execution begins.
A well-planned project makes the entire process smoother and gives you a home that feels much more intentional.
At the end of the day the most successful home isn’t the one that looks perfect in a photograph. It is the one that feels perfect to the people who live in it.
